2025 Advanced Closure Course
Saturday, April 26, 2025
8am Pacific Time
Course Description
The ASMS virtual Advanced Closure Course provides detailed lectures combined with photographic and engagingly instructive video presentation material of reconstruction techniques. The challenges of facial reconstruction and a multitude of closure options are discussed in detail, with ample time allowed for faculty Q&A. The course will include in-depth presentations of nasal repairs stratified by region/subunit, focusing upon various approaches to reconstructing defects in each nasal area. Practical concepts of rotation and transposition flaps will be supplemented with multiple case presentations. Fear not large facial defects, as this course will offer solutions to their healing. A breadth of select facial reconstruction cases illustrating why a specific repair was chosen, and approaches for optimizing results will help dermatologic surgeons take their closure techniques and decision-making confidence to the next level.

ASMS members will have their last opportunity to take the Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery subspecialty exam given by the American Board of Dermatology from September 29-October 4, 2025. Registration for the ABD MDS exam will be through the American Board of Dermatology website and expires 5/16/25. The pass rate in the last three years was very high (88-95%), indicating that our members prepared adequately for the exam.
Based on feedback from our members who took the exam, the ASMS has attached a Study Guide listing the resources that were useful in preparing for the exam. This is a repeat of the course that was given the past two years. Applicants for the MDS Exam have expressed this was one of the best MDS preparation courses.
The ASMS encourages all our eligible members to take the exam knowing that, with sufficient study, the pass rate is quite high. This is the last opportunity to take the exam for those who have not completed an ACGME-approved fellowship. Please don't miss this opportunity to join hundreds of your colleagues who are already Board Certified in MDS. You can do it too!
